Mini Network Gateway M15

The Mini Network Gateway M15 is a result of development of our most popular gateway M15.

The new version has become smaller, retained outstanding radio characteristics and acquired new functions that facilitate operation.

The network gateway provides simultaneous reception of close and remote sensors, "covers" a large area, has high reliability and low cost, does not require radio planning, configuration or maintenance.

It is the combination of these characteristics that determines the parameters of projects in the Internet of Things.

New remote control functions allow you to rebuild networks faster and easier.

Features of LPWAN coverage organization

For the organization of high-quality LPWAN coverage, the location of the gateway and receiving antenna is very important. This mini network gateway M15 mini is designed to organize coverage in difficult reception conditions, in areas with electronic warfare, to cover large areas, in cities

M15 mini has outstanding characteristics of the receiving radio part. Like other gateways, M15 mini is designed to work in the most severe all-weather conditions and has a sealed case.

The second important task for organizing high-quality LPWAN coverage is to provide clean power supply for the gateway. M15 mini has a wide voltage range from 7 V to 15 V and 15 W of power consumption. This does not impose significant restrictions on the power sources used, allows you to place the gateway at a distance of up to 50-70 m from the power source, which simplifies placement and installation - in fact, only one low-current cable is needed for operation. We recommend using complete power supplies selected by our specialists.

Ease of use

If you have ever set up an LPWAN gateway from other manufacturers, you know that the process is not quick, it requires setting up each gateway, sometimes even connecting it with a wire. At the same time, the settings are complex and not always clear to ordinary users.

Unlike other LPWANs, GoodWAN technology is much simpler for the user. In particular, the gateway does not require initial configuration: it knows where to send messages, it does not need to enter passwords and keys, sensors do not need to be linked to the gateway, etc.

After switching on, the gateway will conduct self-diagnostics within 30 seconds and begin receiving sensor data, simultaneously determining its coordinates.

Once a minute, the gateway transmits a special status message to the server, which contains data on the average noise level in the air and the average reception level.

The gateway can receive firmware updates "over the air" from the server

Network planning and reliability

The basic principle behind GoodWAN technology is that all gateways receive all messages from all sensors and transmit them to the network server. The server then checks the messages for integrity, authenticity and "collects" multiple messages into one.

This approach has advantages in ensuring the entire life cycle of the entire network. When planning or deploying an operator network, expensive software is often used. In the case of GoodWAN, this is not required: the gateways do not "interfere" with each other in any way. In places where there is "not enough" coverage or bandwidth, it is enough to install another M14 gateway.

Reliability is improved in a similar way.

The M15 mini network gateway is compatible with the OpenUNB standard, in the development of which our specialists took part.

Importance of correct installation

The correct placement of the network gateway with the antenna is fundamentally important for ensuring reliable reception of messages from sensors.

The main factor affecting the reception range is the height of the antenna. The higher the antenna, the better the signals from the sensors are received and the larger the coverage area provided by one gateway. It is highly desirable that the antenna be located at a height 1.5-2 times greater than the average building height.

Avoid installing the antenna on dual-purpose poles, which are often used to place cellular equipment on them. In terms of coverage area, placing the antenna on such poles is extremely ineffective.

When placing the gateway indoors or underground, make sure that the cellular signal level is sufficient, or use the gateway with other network interfaces.

Recommendations for choosing a location for installing the network gateway:

1. The best place is on the roof of the tallest building in the area. The height of the mast should be at least two meters;

2. The top edge of the antenna must be at least 3 meters higher than any object near the installation site (wall, ledge, fence, other equipment);

3. There must be no other antennas, ledges, parapets, etc. near the antenna;

4. The antenna must be installed at the maximum distance from power lines, massive metal objects and walls, especially reinforced concrete;

5. Pin antennas with a circular radiation pattern must be mounted strictly vertically in accordance with all manufacturer's recommendations;

6. A panel antenna can be installed on a wall or directly on the edge of a roof, or on a mast with an orientation and tilt towards the location of the end devices (sensors).
