Monitoring of transport without GPS/GLONASS and without a cellular network - in the conditions of electronic warfare

🚌 Ground public transport traffic control has long been implemented in many Russian cities, and passengers are used to watching on their smartphones 📡 when the bus arrives at the stop. However, it often happens that the bus is already at the stop on the smartphone, but it is not there in reality.

🛰 These systems are based on satellite positioning systems, known as GNSS. We often refer to them as GPS, although this is not entirely accurate.
GPS is an American system that stands for Global Positioning System. Russia has its own Global Navigation Satellite System, or GLONASS. In addition, satellites from the Chinese BeiDou system, the European Galileo system, and other companies are also in operation today. GNSS is the name that encompasses all of these systems.
✈️ Since these systems are used by drones for navigation, their signals are jammed in many cities. As a result, not only does the satellite signal disappear, but often so does cellular communication. Therefore, traditional transport monitoring systems often fail.

🗺 We have developed a wireless system that "brings buses back to the map," allowing for the monitoring of ground (and water) transport along a route, even in the face of interference. How does it work?

The main idea of our system is to track when vehicles pass through checkpoints. To do this, our tags are mounted on all such points in protected weatherproof enclosures. As always, the whole system is wireless, no wires are needed. The battery in the tag will last up to 10 years of operation. The points can be stops, road intersections, and just lighting masts – or any street object along which vehicles pass.
Another device, the tracker, is installed on the vehicle, which receives signals from the tags and transmits them via the LPWAN GoodWAN/OpenUNB unlicensed 868 MHz radio channel to the receiver (network gateway). The tracker can be either standalone or connected to the vehicle's onboard network.
Then everything is simple - we collect information on the server and put traffic on the map, build reports. It works without cellular connection and without GPS/GLONASS. You can read more details here.
