Operation of sensors in the cold

We are often asked - how do our sensors work in the cold? In Moscow, the snow was not brought this year, but we were helped by a partner from Kazakhstan - 2020kz, sharing this video. As you can see, even in such difficult conditions, when the temperature drops to -40, and there is also a piercing wind, the sensors work perfectly. On the shore of the frozen reservoir, a complex is installed, which monitors the temperature and humidity of the air, as well as the water level.
Of course, one of the main elements of the sensors that allows you to work in the cold is the right power supply. The lithium-thionyl chloride (LiSOCl2) batteries that we use also have a drop in capacity in the cold, but everything is designed to work even in conditions of prolonged negative temperatures. Our clients have sensors in freezers at temperatures < -20C and are never warm at all, but this does not interfere with them at all. And the batteries themselves have a wide range of operating temperatures — from -60 to +85 °C. Some manufacturers have models that can operate at temperatures up to +150 °C (in a special version).

By the way, all GoodWAN sensors undergo mandatory testing with several freezing cycles and thermocycling before being delivered to customers.
